Justin Carrasquillo is a University of North Carolina at Charlotte alumnus and a former J. Murrey Atkins Library student worker. Mr. Carrasquillo discusses his family's background. On his mother's side of the family, his family emigrated from Cuba. On his father's side, his family emigrated from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. Mr. Carrasquillo reflects on living in Miami, Florida, and moving to North Carolina. He discusses attending school in Kannapolis, North Carolina, and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He talks about his educational experience in the Computer Science program at UNC Charlotte and his work experience at the J. Murrey Atkins Library as an Interlibrary Loan Student Assistant and Metadata Student Assistant. He speaks about how his library work experience was an asset in finding employment after graduating from college. Mr. Carrasquillo discusses his experience as a Hispanic professional in the technology field. Lastly, he discusses how his experience as a Hispanic male in North Carolina differed from his other Hispanic classmates because of their families' nationalities. Other topics addressed are living, studying, and working in the greater Charlotte area; Latino/Hispanic self-identity.
