Description

Kim Bradley discusses how she became Chief of Staff for Chancellor Philip L. Dubois at UNC Charlotte in 2016. She talks about her first few months on the job, which witnessed a series of protests, one of which occurred near campus, over the shooting of Keith Lamont Scott. She highlights steps taken by the University to address student concerns over activism. She also discusses concerns by parents - some over student safety, and others who felt that the University was enabling more protests. She recalls her time working as an administrator in the Syracuse, New York School K-12 System, in particular how that position had prepared her well for dealing in crisis communication and crisis management, and how she was able to use those learned experiences at UNC Charlotte. She speaks to the inclusive climate at UNC Charlotte, noting that kind of environment is supportive of student activism in general, and concludes the interview discussing the ways the University has addressed student concerns over diversity and inclusion to date.
