Description

Dale F. Halton, former CEO of Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Charlotte, discusses her involvement with the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and in particular her close association with Chancellor James H. Woodward, and her support for both athletic and academic programs. Ms. Halton describes how she was involved in securing funding for several campus athletics projects - notably the Halton Arena and the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex. Additionally, she comments on her support for Athletic Director Judy Rose, noting how important the latter has been to the university. Mrs Halton talks about ways she has tried to recognize Rose's work, from scholarships in Rose's name, to the naming of the Judy Rose Football Center. She also discusses other scholarships she has endowed and donations she has made for academics at the university, particularly in International Business for which she has an interest. As the interview concludes, Ms. Halton discusses why it was important to have athletic facilities (like the Student Activity Center) on campus as well as why starting a football program during the Woodward Administration was not viable.
