Description

Charles Jones shares his memories of the Brooklyn neighborhood of Charlotte, North Carolina, also known as Second Ward. He describes the sense of community pride in Brooklyn's residents and their close-knit relationships, differences between Charlotte's African American neighborhoods, and popular businesses including the Lincoln Theater. He also talks about the influential church United House of Prayer for All People, including the music, Bishop Daddy Grace, the House of Prayer parade, the musicians, and the church's strong sense of community. He also talks about the urban renewal project and how that affected Brooklyn's former residents.
