Ruth Ann Grissom was a 39-year-old woman at the time of the interview, which took place in her home in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was raised in Montgomery County, North Carolina. She was educated at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was employed as a social worker in New York City before moving back to North Carolina.
