Sister Mary Jerome Spradley recalls her memories of nursing school and her nursing career in Charlotte, North Carolina. She discusses attending high school and entering a nursing program at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte in 1947, which did not have access to advanced medicine or technology but emphasized caregiving. After graduation, she worked as a nurse at Mercy Hospital and later became an administrator of the hospital in 1964. She talks about her profession as a nurse, the organizational structure of Mercy Hospital, and the change in technology and medical practice that she has seen in the profession over time.
