Description

Manuel Zapata shares stories from his life after migrating from Santiago, Chile to Gastonia, North Carolina in 1967. Mr. Zapata, an anti-Communist, left Chile to get away from the strengthening Communist Party, and describes how different life was in Gastonia from cosmopolitan Santiago. Topics discussed include the strong European influences on South American culture, his positive views on hardworking immigrants to the United States, and his experiences as one of the few international students attending UNC Charlotte in the late 1960s-early 1970s.
