Emilio Estrada and his wife Isabel discuss emigrating from southern Mexico, near Acapulco, to Charlotte, North Carolina with their two sons in 1995 and how their lives are different in the United States. Mr. Estrada describes how he and fellow immigrants from Latin America are treated unfairly in landscaping and are paid lower wages than U.S. citizens. He recounts his life as a rancher and farmer in Mayanalán, a town in Guerrero, Mexico near Acapulco and describes cheeses that he produced. Mr. Estrada explains how his family moved to the United States for better opportunities and affordable education, and how he would like to move back once his sons complete high school. He also discusses differences in gender norms between Mexico and the United States, how NAFTA has benefited Mexico, and the importance of Latin Americans to the U.S. economy.
