Dan Davis describes playing and coaching basketball in and around Union County, North Carolina. After his graduation from UNC Chapel Hill in 1928, he came back to Union County to teach and coach men's and women's basketball, as well as baseball. He went on to coach at several other schools. Mr. Davis states that basketball was the most popular sport in the area because it was an activity that got the community involved. He describes various other aspects of playing basketball like the dirt courts they played on and how they used trains to travel to and from games.
