Description

Vada Hewins and her son, John Shayle Edwards, describe their early experiences playing basketball in Catawba County, North Carolina. Vada Hewins goes into detail about how the rules and regulations pertaining to women's basketball had evolved from when she played during the 1920s and 1930s, and Mr. Edwards discusses playing basketball in the 1950s. Ms Hewins reminisces about her basketball coach Jamie Coulter for the values he imparted on the team and the unique style of coaching he used, and her experiences playing in an industrial league. Both interviewees recall important tournaments they managed to win for their respective teams, along with the players they played beside.
