Description

Jane Bradley Kuykendall describes her early experience playing basketball in Charlotte, North Carolina. Mrs. Kuykendall discusses various aspects that have evolved in womens basketball including their uniforms, rules and regulations, and the community’s varying opinions on whether women should be permitted to play sports. Mrs. Kuykendall also recalls attending Queens College during the 1930s when it was an all women's institution, alongside the restrictions that entailed for the students.

Biographical/Historical Note
Jane Bradley Kuykendall was a 79-year-old woman at the time of the interview, which took place in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. She was born in Mocksville, North Carolina in 1913. She was educated at Queens College and Winthrop College where she obtained her Masters Degree in Library Science. She was employed as a librarian at Collinswood Elementary School.
