They describe learning how to play basketball at a local park, playing informally with friends in the neighborhood at the YMCA and outdoors, and organizing their own team. They recount having to pay for their own uniforms and equipment and driving to games in their own cars, while the boys' team at their high school received funding for uniforms and coaches. Other topics include playing golf at the Charlotte Country Club as adults; social aspects of basketball games; what school was like; singing for soldiers at Camp Greene; and visiting downtown Charlotte, parks, and other places on the streetcar.
