Native Charlottean Kathlee Hicks discusses her time as a basketball player and drum majorette for Central High School in the 1930s. She describes the uniforms she wore in both activities and discusses how gender conventions of the day shaped their appearance. Ms. Hicks talks about the legacy of women in basketball in North Carolina and womens' contributions to the popularity of the sport statewide. Ms. Hicks also recalls various swimming and water safety programs in which she and her children participated.
