Bill Birchfield talks about moving from around Rochester, New York to Southern Pines, North Carolina in 1968 mainly for a change in weather. Mr. Birchfield worked as a tool and die maker for General Electric and at one point in his career also worked for General Motors also fixing and making tools. He also talks about other jobs that he has held in his lifetime, including farming and serving as a radio-operator mechanic on a B-24 airplane in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Birchfield briefly discusses the economic recession occurring during the time of the interview and his views on President Gerald Ford's handling of the economy. Other topics include leisure activities such as golfing and participating in the Elks Club.
