David Stewart discusses his career as the program designer of the Immigration Advocacy Project and later as Executive Director of International House in Charlotte, North Carolina. The interview examines Charlotte's growth in international awareness, International House's interactions with immigrant populations in Charlotte, and how the organization came to be a central player in cross-cultural relations. Other topics discussed include the rapid growth of Charlotte's Latinx community; the work of the Mayor's International Cabinet with immigrant groups; International House's Immigration Law Clinic; and emerging concerns following the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States. Additionally, Mr. Stewart details the struggles of establishing a community servicing immigration law clinic in a multicultural nonprofit setting.
