Description

In this interview, Wesley describes his early life growing up in Greenville, South Carolina and how he moved to Charlotte after graduating from Winthrop University in 2009. He discusses his perceived difference between North Carolina and South Carolina in terms of racism, discrimination and historical significance. He talks through his introduction to Charlotte’s underground hip-hop scene and how over time venues started to become selective about where artists could perform. When asked about authenticity, Dammit Wesley discusses code switching, why he chooses not to do so and why future generations should stop. He goes into detail about becoming an artist and deejay, inspiration for his work and upcoming projects. Later in the interview, he talks about how his artwork fuels his deejaying and vice versa.
