Evelyn Grindstaff was a 77-year-old woman at the time of interview, which took place in her home in Gastonia, North Carolina. She was born in Lincolnton, North Carolina in 1922. She completed the fourth grade, and was employed as a textile mill worker in the Groves Mills and the Pharr Yarn Mill.
