In this second interview for the WSOC project, Blanche Leak Gluyas shares her extensive knowledge about the development of Charlotte since the late 1800s, this time focusing on the city's entertainment and recreation. Biographical/Historical Note
Blanche Leak Gluyas was a 90-year-old woman at the time of interview, which took place in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was born in Shelby, North Carolina in 1889. She earned a high school diploma and attended King's Business College, and was employed as a stenographer with Southern Bell Telephone Company and as a secretary with the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C.
