Mary Maxwell is a retired educator born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. In this interview, she discusses living on Beatties Ford Road, near the Washington Heights neighborhood. Mrs. Maxwell stresses how important Washington Heights was to her husband who grew up in the neighborhood, and to his family. She describes Washington Heights as having been elite and close knit, with residents such as teachers, nurses, and other professionals. She also discusses her childhood growing up in Charlotte's Third Ward, attending Isabella Wyche Elementary School, graduating from West Charlotte High School in 1955, attending Carver College from which she graduated, and being an educator for over thirty years.
