Description

Ronald Hare discusses his contributions to a flood mitigation project done by Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. He relates the process by which houses were acquired by the county and then torn down in order to turn the area into an ecological garden and natural floodplain. He describes living in Hidden Valley, its associations, and living in the Cherry community as a child.

Biographical/Historical Note
Ronald Hare was a 78-year-old man at the time of this interview, which took place at Mr. Hare's home in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1935. He was educated at Second Ward High School, received his Associates’ degree in Mechanical Engineering from Central Piedmont Community College and his BS in Industrial Arts Education from Virginia State University. He served in the United States Army and was employed as a repairman with the Western Electric Company and later as a manager at Westinghouse Electric. After retirement, he worked for Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools as a youth apprenticeship coordinator and as a training consultant for the Charlotte Automobile Dealers Association.
