John Gandar was Professor Emeritus of Economics and Finance at UNC Charlotte and 72 years old at the time of this interview. He was born in New Zealand, and received his B.A. from Massey University, his M.A. from Victoria University, and his Ph.D. form the University of Missouri. He joined the Belk College faculty in 1982. Dr. Gandar has published academically in the Journal of Finance, Journal of Monetary Economics, and Journal of Political Economy. He served as the chair of the Economics Department from 2001-2004, as the associate dean from 2004-2009, and as the interim chair of Marketing, Management, and Economics from 2009-2011. Benjamin Russo was Professor Emeritus of Economics at UNC Charlotte and 73 years old at the time of this interview. He was born in Brooklyn, New York and received his B.A. in philosophy from SUNY Stony Brook, and his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Iowa. He joined the Belk College faculty in 1984. Dr. Russo is a macroeconomist specializing in long-run economic growth, tax policy, and national saving and government debt. He has served on staff for North Carolina’s State and Local Fiscal Modernization Study Commission, as well as the Institute for Emerging Issues’ working group on Financing North Carolina’s Future. He chaired the New Economy Subcommittee for the Governor’s Commission to Modernize State Finances, and has served the Department of Finance Canada as a consultant on R&D tax incentives. Rick Zuber was Professor Emeritus of Economics at UNC Charlotte and 68 years old at the time of this interview. He was born in Aberdeen, MA, and received his B.A. from Wake Forest University, his M.S. from the University of Kentucky, and his Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky. Dr. Zuber joined the Belk College faculty in 1978. He has published articles in leading economics and finance journals such as the Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Finance, and the Journal of Monetary Economics. He was chair of the Economics Department from 2004 to 2010.
