Biographical/Historical Note
Doug Cooper was Professor Emeritus of Operations Management at UNC Charlotte and 80 years old at the time of this interview. He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from North Carolina State University. He joined the Belk College faculty in 1985.
Prior to coming to UNC Charlotte, Dr. Cooper was associate professor of operations research at NCSU. Dr. Cooper has consulted with over 200 major national and international companies, held the position of vice president for operations in two large manufacturing companies, and held staff management positions in operations and systems auditing for a large international company. His teaching interests lie in the area of operations management and decision support systems.
Robert Guinn was Professor Emeritus of Accounting at UNC Charlotte and 77 years old at the time of this interview. He was born in Battle Creek, MI, and received his B.A from Carson-Newman College, and his M.Acc. and Ph.D. from the University of Alabama. He joined the Belk College faculty in 1976.
Prior to coming to UNC Charlotte Dr. Guinn taught at Middle Tennessee State University. He was the 1999 recipient of the Bank of America Award for Excellence in Teaching. In 1995 and 2005 he received the Thomas C. Turner Distinguished Teaching Award, presented by the Department of Accounting at UNC Charlotte. His research interests included auditing, fraud, financial accounting and accounting education. His publications on these topics have appeared in Accounting Education, The CPA Journal, and The Tax Adviser. He is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is past president of the Charlotte Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants.
Ed Jernigan was Associate Professor Emeritus of Management at UNC Charlotte and 74 years old at the time of this interview. He was born in Nashville, TN, and received his B.S. from Middle Tennessee State University, and his D.B.A. and M.B.A. from Memphis State University
Dr. Jernigan joined the Belk College faculty in 1989. He taught undergraduate organizational behavior and management principles, and organizational behavior in the M.B.A. program. His research focuses were employee commitment, leadership effectiveness, and adapting to change.
