Irene Elizabeth Hunt describes her early life growing up in Gaffney, South Carolina during the early twentieth century and the great importance of education to her family. Topics include helping to educate her siblings; memories of one of her favorite teachers, Mrs. Littlejohn; her educational experiences at Barber-Scotia College, Johnson C. Smith University, and the University of Pittsburgh; and her career as a teacher at Rockwell Rosenwald School in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina beginning in the 1940s.
