In this interview Caroll D. Gray, former president of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, discusses his relationship with James H. Woodward during the latter's tenure as the chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Mr. Gray focuses on the creation of the first off-campus education center for the university -- UNC Charlotte Uptown, which was located in the CityFair Building on College Street in the central business district of Charlotte. Mr. Gray also talks about the process that led to the first doctoral program offerings at the university and their impact on the evolution of the campus.
