Todd Tibbits was CEO of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte from March of 2016 to August of 2021. He had previously worked for YMCAs in Toledo, Ohio and in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota. As he noted, he headed the Charlotte Y at an especially challenging time. In September of 2016 the police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott catapulted Charlotte into the nationwide Black Lives Matter movement. In March of 2020, the coronavirus pandemic reached Charlotte, forcing the closure of Y facilities for several months and prompting a significant drop in membership. Mr. Tibbits left the Greater Charlotte YMCA in August of 2021 to head the YMCA in San Diego. While in Charlotte, he focused a great deal of attention on race-related issues.
