Interviewee Biography: Sheryl Manning was a 62-year-old woman at the time of interview, which took place virtually in her home in the Country Club Heights neighborhood of Charlotte, North Carolina. Ms. Manning was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1958. She was educated at Baylor University and was employed as a designer for Reico Kitchen and Bath. Shelley Burton Earnhardt was a 61-year-old woman at the time of interview. Ms. Earnhardt was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1959. She was educated at Charlotte Catholic High School and was employed as a mortgage processor at Quicken Loans.
Abstract: In this interview, Sheryl Manning and Shelley Burton Earnhardt discuss their participation in the Charlotte LGBTQ+ chorus One-Voice. Ms. Manning and Ms. Earnhardt discuss the large impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on vocal practice, performance, and community building. Other topics discussed include: women’s music festivals, inclusion, diversity, and heterosexual allies.
