Bob Morgan begins the interview discussing his life and how he became the CEO of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce in 2005. He talks about the work of the Chamber and its relevance to UNC Charlotte, which included helping the University as it grew its research base through public/private ventures, and supporting the initiative to bring light rail onto campus. Mr. Morgan then recalls some of the "bold leadership decisions" made by Philip L. Dubois during his first decade as chancellor. These included the aforementioned light rail, as well as the opening of the Center City Campus building, the creation of the football program, the Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC), and the Big Data initiative - which culminated in the creation of the School of Data Science.
