In this second of two interviews, Ellen T. Ruff, successful lawyer and Charlotte Duke Energy executive, discusses how she met her husband in law school at UNC Chapel Hill, their relationship, and his background before they met. She also talks about her career following their completion of law school and the bar exam. She discusses her decision to move to Asheville, North Carolina and then the decision to move to Charlotte, North Carolina. Ms. Ruff talks about her life in Asheville and Charlotte, things that she enjoyed about living in these places and things she did not like so much. She discusses at length her responsibilities while employed with Duke Energy, the circumstances that led to her being employed by the company, and how things changed at the company over time. Ms. Ruff also talks about her children and their lives as well as the effects of Hurricane Hugo in 1989. Finally, she discusses life after her husband's stroke and how things had to change, some for the better and some for the worse.
