Interviewee Biography

Thereasea D. Clark Elder was a 88-year-old woman at the time of interview, which took place in her home in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was born in Charlotte in 1927. She was educated at West Charlotte Senior High School, Lincoln School of Nursing, and Freedom Hospital School of Nursing, where she conducted special studies in pediatrics; and she was employed as a nurse for 41 years at L. Richardson Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, Mecklenburg County Health Department, and Community Health Services.

Thereasea D. Clark Elder discusses the founding of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Black Heritage Committee in 1992 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Topics discussed include her motivation for creating the organization, founding members, the assistance of the Charlotte Post, specific work achieved such as the Thereasea Clark Elder Trailblazer Award, and other relevant organizations, including the Greenville Community Historic Society.
