Irene Elizabeth Hunt was a 94-year-old woman at the time of interview, which took place in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was born in Gaffney, South Carolina in 1910. She was educated at Barber-Scotia College and Johnson C. Smith University, and received her Master's in Education at the University of Pittsburgh. She was employed as a principal and teacher at Rockwell Rosenwald School. She also taught in schools in South Carolina, and at Torrence Lytle School and Shamrock Gardens Elementary School in Charlotte.
