Starting third in a field of 30 drivers, Darrell Waltrip finished first. The other top-ten finishers were Neil Bonnett, Richard Petty, David Marcis, Buddy Arrington, Bobby Allison, James Hylton, Richard Childress, Cecil Gordon, and Jimmy Means. Dale Earnhardt would later drive the number two car driven by Dave Marcis in the 1978 Virginia 500 to his first victory.
